"The 1816 audio card was installed in a HP Vectra VA running a Pentium 1 200Mhz, 64mb memory and a 1GB Compact Flash card used as the main drive with OS.
The OS recogniized the card and asked for the drivers. Since the drivers are small in size, I opted to put them on a 3 1/2 floppy without the READ ME file which is empty. The drivers are behind several folders once they are unzipped. I elected to remove the extra not needed folders when storing the drivers on the hard drive (simple is best).
Have Windows 98 install the drivers from the A drive (floppy). Once they loaded I checked the Device manager and found only two of the three drivers installed, no audio driver loaded.
I rebooted the computer and Windows recognized the need for the 1860 Audio driver. Again, install from the A drive. Windows will ask for the 98SE disk to complete the install, have it on hand.
Rebooted....Sweet clear static free music!

"Well, WIN98 was happy with the files as far as givin gme the little speaker icon, and PRETENDING to play sounds! (This is better than what i had before!) It's still silent, though. At least I've made a LOT more progress than the almost useless HP Site gave me! Their sound card installer software crashes because it can't find a file called RDBIOS32.DLL. At least THIS one WORKED to a point! ) NOTE You have to know how to use DEVICE MANAGER, etc, to get this driver to install. It is NOT automatic!"

"This did work for W98!!! I had to put the file on a floppy disk. Updated the driver from that. Restarted after the initial update of the driver. It did not seem to be working, tho' the system said everything was correct. I went thru the Control Panel-Systems-Devices to the sound card properties panel. I think it was the second tab 'settings' or something like that. I hit a button that said 'set defaults' and then the system had to reboot again. This time as Windows came up I had sound. Thanks for the driver!"

"The driver worked fine for the soundcard part. The mu401 part tried to assign the same irq as the soundcard and had to be assigned manually. Aftger reassigning the irq this worked fine also. The soundcard is labeled fx-3d and 1816s soundpart is on the soundchip"

"This driver only works with windows 95 and is the driver I had with 95. When I upgraded to windows 98 I lost my sound and as yet have not found a driver for an Analog AD1816A sound card. This one doesnt work with 98!!"
