"The driver is actually a Realtek AC97 Audio Device, not a C-Media AC97. It executes without a hitch. The system acknowledges that the device is working correctly, but I still get no sound. I'm not sure yet if the issue is with the driver or the speakers. Will try another C-Media AC97 driver to see if it works. If you know you have a Realtek AC97 device, I think you can definitely use this driver."

"After installing the update for AC97 from the "Windows Update" site I received an error in my "Device Manager" "Sound, video and game controllers". This has happened many times over the last few years when downloading the driver update from Microsoft. They probably need to remove their driver for this update or find the correct one.

Installing the C-Media AC97 driver update took care of the problem after the Microsoft update error (you can always roll back to the old driver and I'm not sure about this but it seems to have more features than the old one.
