This is an ASPI Manager for your Windows 2000 and the one needed to run MP3 encoder or other applications those need ASPI Manager.

Run it and reboot your PC.

And after rebooted, run the application and you will be ready to go!

"It looks like some people are having a lot of trouble with this wnaspi32.dll thing so I thought that I would add my two cents worth. I just downloaded the ZIP executable and yes it does just flash up and disappear. For everyone's information in Win2k it copies the contents to C \Documents and Settings\(your current login name)\Local Settings\Temp. Within the Temp folder you'll find the WINNT folder with the System and System32 folders inside. If instead of double clicking the ZIP file, you right-click it and select 'Open with Winzip' then select 'Extract' and select somewhere where you'll remember where you put them. As mentioned above, copy the two files in the 'System' folder to the C \WINNT\System folder and copy the wnaspi32.dll from the 'System32' folder to C \WINNT\System32 and from within the 'Drivers' folder (which you'll notice is inside the 'System32' folder) copy Aspi32.sys to C \WINNT\System32\Drivers. Now you may find everything is fine and dandy at this point but I didn't as I got an error stating 'Incorrect ASPI installation' (or something like it). Prior to all this I had noticed that from my NER0 5.5 install I had a copy of WNASPI32.DLL (all in caps) sitting at C \Program Files\Ahead\Nero\WNASPI32.dll and being that it's way more recent than the one I downloaded from this site (169KB 23/10/2001 as opposed to 44KB 10/09/1999) I copied this over to the C \WINNT\System32 directory and hey presto everything works fine and Nero still works. So if you're having problems download the latest copy of NERO from www.ahead.com, install it copy the WNASPI32.DLL from the location mentioned above and uninstall NERO (if you don't want to keep it that is) and you should be in business."

"INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL "wnaspi32.dll" -------------------------------------- Inorder to intall ASPI MANAGER files, you must download that "Aspi_Win2000.exe" file and unzip it using 'Winzip', but do not double click it by assuming .exe file, after that follow the instructions as I mentioned below Copy the individual files into the respective locations of the Operating Systems files. 1). Copy the TWO files from 'system' folder to C \WINNT\System 2). Copy the the files from 'system32' folder to C \WINNT\System32 ASPI ---- APSI typically provides the fastest and highest quality ripping. However, for some CD-ROM drives, ASPI may be unavailable or may not perform as expected. If the ASPI tab is unavailable, an ASPI manager is not loaded (wnaspi32.dll). When running on Windows NT, AudioCatalyst reads data using ASPI calls for both IDE and SCSI CD-ROMs. Unfortunately, the ASPI manager is not distributed with Windows NT, so you may need to install one. If you have a SCSI drive, you probably already have an ASPI manager installed. If you do not have an ASPI manager, you can download this one"

"In order for this to work properly, unzip using WinZip to a folder of your choice. It will create a folder called WINNT. Double click on the folder. You should now see 2 folders, SYSTEM and SYSTEM32. Double click on the SYSTEM folder. Copy winaspi.dll to your Win2k SYSTEM folder (usually C \WINNT\SYSTEM). Go up one level and double click on the SYSTEM32 folder. You should see a folder called DRIVERS and a file called winaspi32.dll. Copy winaspi32.dll to your Win2k SYSTEM32 folder (Usually C \WINNT\SYSTEM32). Now double click on the DRIVERS folder. Copy the aspi32.sys file to your Win2k System32 Drivers folder (Usually C \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. Now your done. Stop whining about the file just flashing!!! If you don't know anything about computers you shouldn't be messing around with this stuff anyway."

"Ok, this is to all the people having problems to get rippers like Audiocatalyst to work under w2000. I had the same problem, I tried all the ASPI drivers I could find on this site, without any luck. Then I tried to install MusicMatch Jukebox. It made some configuring on my CD player and after that I could rip music with the ASPI option in Audiocatalyst. It worked after uninstalling MMJB as well. www.musicmatch.com There is a free version."
