 "I didn't have a clean insstall as I had preinsstalled OS on HDD (see below why). So I needed a bunch of new (old) drivers and a lot of work to do.
1. I upgraded to IE 5.5SP2 and ran all available service packs I've got handy.
2. Then I __manually__ removed the complete PCI bus, COM/LPT ports and everything that was malfunctioning or doubly insstalled. I wrote down the code I needed.
3. I resstarted sysstem a few times, it reinsstalled all needed services, ports and everything correctly. Beware of correct PCI ssteering settings! Do not use BIOS calls!
4. Then I sstarted looking all across internet for drivers. I came to Add new hardware ... Drivers... Browse... dialogue, got to this site and in a few hours found this pack. I quited this insstall with Cancel (unknown device should appear or no device at all) and continued with boot.
5. If you insstalled any sound device, __manually__ remove it. It's the besst way.
6. I downloaded the file quite fasst, burned it to a CD, opened it after reboot an unzipped it to a suitable location somewhere on drive C.
7. Reboot.
8. Now insstallation plays, dunno. Self detection on-boot or through Add new hardware. As you wish.
9. Well, sound now plays, what can I say.
But, my mickey is sstill on strike there. ;) HW issue.
Why it happened: I needed to downgrade to older MB as newer on one of my secondary PCs got burned. Chipset on this spare MB is BXcel. It's Ali 1543, actually: Acer and it is packed in Acer OEM mini tower, originally packed with AT PS, but supports ATX too. So " |

"This driver installed for me correctly the first time. I have a PCChips M571 motherboard, K6-2 366 with the sound board built-in. Follow the README.TXT and let Win98 do the work of installing. I placed the zip file in its own directory and extracted all of the files to that same directory. Then, during the installation, I pointed the "Have Disk" option to that directory. Everything else went along by itself. Thanks to SYSFIX for uploading this driver. Even PCChips did not have it available anymore!

"This is the third version of these drivers I have downloaded from driverguide.com. Everyone else seems to be having good luck with them, but I keep getting stuck when it comes to the SB16 Audio driver part. I get the messages "cannot find cmpci.cat" and cannot find cm8330sb.sys. "I'M UP TO MY 4TH ATTEMPT TO DOWNLOAD THIS DRIVER TODAY. I THINK MY ISP KEEPS BUMPING ME OFF. THEY DON'T LIKE IT WHEN YOU DON'T DOWNLOAD FROM THEIR SERVICE. "Couldn't use Windows explorer after installing this driver. Would immediately crash..yet I know it is the correct driver. Blare's recommendation to to set playback device to "SB16 playback" in Multimedia of Control Panel was right on. Solved the problem! Finally!"
