This driver is for a Compaq Presario 5000 with an onboard ESS Allegro (chip stamped ESS Allegro ES1989S) sound card. This is a friend's PacBell DSL box that came preloaded with WinME and she wanted to upgrade to Win2000. If you're doing the same thing with the same box, this worked great for me.
