"I tried this driver on my Windows2000 Pro (SP4) to replace the original usbstor.sys driver, and found it to work much better than the original one... which is surprising being this one is from WinME !... but the enumerating works better with this one (recognize the USB Mass Storage Device at bootup, if connected to the USB port already)... the original one didn't enumerate at all at boot time. I had to disconnect/reconnect the usb cable to the port before it saw the device. Also, the transfer is better with this one, ... before it was errors, and corrupted transfers, with large sustained transfered files (8 gigs and more) now, no more corruption. This also seems to work better with my Generic USB2.0-to-IDE Adapter using this usbstor.sys from WinME OS... I still can't put the backup file Image directly to the USB Drive, from the Backup program, but this couldn't be done with ANY Operating System, even under WinXP, so it's NOT the driver, but rather the Generic USB-to-IDE Adapter (YOUNGMICRO.COM on the box, but purchased from PCMicroStore.com) ... so I put the backup file to my internal IDE drive first, then transfer the entire large Image file to the USB drive, without any troubles.... I couldn't do that before with Win2K and the original driver... even with small files, like 1 gig or so, errors would happen on the USB drive, and I had to correct it using ScanDisk from DOS.

I recommend this new driver for Win2K, if you can't get the update from Microsoft that they recommend... who knows, this may be the one they give you anyway... :-)"

"I needed 3 files to get my USB Flash Drive to work and they are

USBMPHLP.PDR

usbstor.sys

usbntmap.sys

I downloaded them from Driver Guide into a file I created in My Documents.

I then copyed them and pasted them in my C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM folder

and then let the Device Manager - Update Driver Wizard do the rest

and WALA... it is working great !!!

Thanks a LOT to all responsible !!!!

PS. I had to rename the UsbRegUSBNTMAP.SYS file to

usbntmap.sys before I copied it to my SYSTEM folder"

"I'd like to thank you for this driver and for Andy's other suggestion on how to get them from the WinME CD. Sony's installation instructions aren't too clear (DSC-707 camera). I tried both ways and both worked. You can also get it directly from the CD during installation but you have to change the path to look in the Win9x\base2.cab file instead of just the CD drive letter. Now I can enjoy my pictures on the computer! Thanks a lot!!! (I wish Sony had added this bit of info to their manual)"
