"said i needed to install adaptec's aspi to run the flash tool, so I followed the instructions and installed the aspi, found out it was already on this computer (Windows 2000 Pro.) and ran the tool again but reported the same error as if I did nothing. Any help here would be appreciative"

"I am thinking of buying ( for real cheap) a Philips CDD 4801/82 CD-RW 8x4x32 and I have no install disk. Win98 gave it a IDE CDR/RW 8x4x32 firmware C1.9. will this flash tool hurt my system. I don't have any Cd-RW software installed yet. I thought maybe you had a driver for the Philip CD-RW as well as the update. Please let me know. Oh, I have a Dell Optiplex GX1."

"This will detect the CDD4801/72 and then install, but my system still is not recognizing the drive as having any CD's in it all. Unlike the other firmware upgrades which would not even allow the installation to proceed this one would, however the end result in my case was negligible. If you know the answer to this please email me by clicking my name (posted at left column) - THANKS ..anthony--"

"Philips 4801 CDD CD-R R/W (PCRW804) If you're having trouble with this drive not recognizing blank CD's, a firmware upgrade is available at Compaq's web site. www29.compaq.com/falco/sp_result.asp?Family=1&SwCategory=45&Os=94 This will upgrade the BIOS to 2.5, allowing it to identify the blank CD's. I have a Presario 7000 desktop running ME. Though my particular model(computer) is not listed, I downloaded it and it now works. Flashtool.exe (Version 3.1.4)"

"Upgraded CDD4401/72 (in a Compaq 5BW120) - now works OK with XP, and accepts 80min CDs as a bonus! Not tried with audio yet, but definitely OK for backups. Thanks Boobers - now I've got a working CD-RW and I can afford to feed my kids as well!"

"It seems promising but it is not recognizing that my ASPI is installed. Adaptec's aspichk utility confirms that I have verions 4.6 and 4.7 files and that it is 'properly installed and fully operational'. Have you heard of this? (win 2000)"

"phillips...hummm.. not very good on their customer support...anyways... i found that the Adaptec " create cd release #4" already has the drivers for this internal cdrw, and it works just fine now, first time the burner ever did. i am running win2000. I had nothing but problems with the "write2 cd" software supplied with the burner running under win98 and win2000. good luck. Note I did not try this driver"

"This driver works good, only one problem. I can copy data disks but when I go to copy an audio cd, it goes through the process smoothly until it gets to the "writing" phase. It writes a small amount and then an "output error" pops up and the disk pops out and that's all she wrote!! Do you have any idea how to fix this problem? thanx"
