zipped driver files for Epson 636U scanner, installs under Windows XP as an "Epson GT7000U." Works OK, scans directly into PhotoDraw, other apps. I added the "USBSCAN.sys" files and others to the archive, so the install utility should find everything in a single directory. Please notify Epson that their failure to support this scanner sucks, that you will no longer buy Epson products.

"Plug the scanner in, tell windows the directory you unzipped the file to and it adds it. Simple. Good Work David! and by the way, Everyone PLEASE Email Epson and tell them that because of their failure to support this product "you will no longer be buying Epson Products."

--Please forward to a customer service manager.--

To whom it may concern,

My name is _____ and I have been using Epson products including **printers, scanners, cameras, whatever you have** for quite some time now and aside from minor problems I been happy with Epson's quality. However, because of Epson's recent lack of commitment to providing even basic support for their products, I will no longer be purchasing Epson products. (The epson perfection 636U scanner driver for windows XP is the most recent I have had to search for)

Good Bye

"I finally upgraded from WIN98 to WINXP. Much better software with XP. The only downside was I could no longer use my Perfection 636U.

Like others, I tried the various downloads from Epson with no success. A Goggle search turned up DriverGuide.com. Had some problems getting the 636U.zip to work correctly. But after I did, the software worked perfectly. Very nice!

I had bought and returned an HP 4070 (horrible scans) and a Canoscan 4200F (cartridge carrier jammed the first time I used it. Yes the lock was open). So after those experiences I figured all the new scanners were junk. I never looked at Epson's products since they made the brilliant decision to abandon my scanner.

Now I'm happily scanning again with my Perfection 636U. A huge thanks to you David Rowell for this wonderful little program!"

"The scanner should already be detected after you boot your machine but will be listed in Device Manager as an 'Other Device' as the correct driver is not loaded.

Simply extract the files to a directory on your hard drive and then in Device Manager (Control Panel|System|Hardware) right click the EPSON GT-9500 (or whatever) entry in the Other Devices section and click Update Driver. In the dialog box select 'Specify an alternate location' and point to the directory you extracted the files into. The correct driver will then be loaded and the scanner will then appear in Contol Panel|Scanners and Cameras. Note that trying to add the device through Control Panel|Scanner and Cameras will not work, you must do it through Device Manager."

"I cannot get this to work. When I get to the point where it asks me to "select the device driver you want to instal with this hardware," I clcik have disk, and point it to the downloaded (and unzipped) folder. I the highlight the only file available ther "ESCANFB," and select open, and then ok from the resulting window. I thn get the error message "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware." That's as far as I can get. Any suggestions? This is infuriating! thanks to steve for the word for this post... and, yes, i checked my USB and it's fine... help..."

"Thanks for the dirver. As near as I can tell it works fine. I tested it with the Epsonscan software and with MS Picture It! and both worked as expected. If I run into any issues later on, I'll let you know. I agree with your comments about Epson's behavior and I told them so when I called for support. The woman who took my call did recommend that I search for a third party driver--which I did and found yours. Thanks again for your contribution."
