"The driver installs OK in WinME, 2K and XP, but the sound quality is really poor (and without the Audio 3D feature)!

Use these drivers instead:

- For WinME/98: get the non-WDM (4.17 version),avaliable in DriverGuide and C-Media website (link below). Included the Audio 3D feature.

- For WinXP: I installed the NT version (3.0, plug-n-play) and works Great! You will get also the Audio 3D feature."

"Follow Bob's insdtructions and you get there in the end. You have to be prepared to go around the loop a few times for reasons I do not understand. Any after doing a Win98 to XP upgrade there was no sound card! I tried a few other downloads with no success. Full marks to Bob, Cheers."

"I have read the feedback on the successes reported with Bob Macdonald's CMI8330_XP.zip download file. I too have downloaded it and found three files there, one being the instalXP.txt with the comprehensive instructions. Before I start I would like to check if this is appropriate for the Sound PRO HT1869V+ chip because that is what I searched for and what came back included this but with reference to CMedia (CMI) I am upgrading an old P233 machine for a student. There is a Sound PRO HT1869V+ chip is on a Mainboard Pentium MMX motherboard. I have installed XP pro and the sound does not work because there are no audio devices. I guess I need XP sound drivers. Device Manager has the big yellow ? by CMI8330 Audio Devices. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated."

"To remove the driver from device manager and letting windows dectect this driver worked great except a file called cmpci.sys , I found that file in drivers.com and omg, I'm back up!!! this does work!! you may need to download the file cmpci.sys for the cmedia(cmi) but it will work!!! "after installing this driver, i went to control panel and clicked test hardware. the result is YOUR SOUND HARDWARE CANNOT PLAY SOUNDS. and after clicking some files, my speakers sound like a bomb ticking. i followed the instructions from instalxp again, still cannot play sounds and ticking goes again. when you play audiocd from the cdrom, you will hear tick, tick, tick,...Sorry i'm the same magus who thank you last Oct2. i thought my comp is working now after following the instructions but when i open it and look for some mp3s, my computer became a bomb. "Did not completely fix my problem. Dual boot system Win95 and XP. All sound functions work 100% on Windows 95. However, when booted on XP, when I plug speakers into the motherboard sound port (normal thing to do), I hear no sound when playing DVDs (picture is fine) or music CDs. If I plug speakers into the DXR3 sound port, I can hear both DVDs and CDs. Amptron PII-2300 mother board with C-Media 8330 sound chipset. Loaded and installed Win2000-compatible CMI8330 drivers from C-Media web site. Device Manager says all okay. Creative Labs 12X PC-DVD with Encore DXR3 decoder card. Loaded and installed XP-compatible drivers and application from Creative Labs web site. Device Manager says all okay. I can read data CDs fine. I have followed every hint and instruction I can find on the web to no avail. I have installed all from scratch multiple times following Bob McDonald's instructions I have swapped IRQs I have checked in Device Manager to make sure all is selected and enabled (multiple levels deep, many times) I have stood on my head. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance."
