"It worked, in Win98. Then I, too, wanted to use a 1220U in XP. The XP built-in driver, called a WIA, worked just fine but is very limited. There is an XP update so you can use the full-blown VistaScan -- it is on the Umax's UK/German website (which for some reason is better than the USA version?). Go to the link below, and search for 1220U, the result I got was in both German and English www.umax.de/support/drivers.htm (the link for direct download is www.umaxfirstaid.de/ftp/2xxx_XP_upd.exe but that may change). Anyway, it worked for me as described first install the 3.55 VistaScan, the the XP update."

"I am downloading the drive as I type this note. I have been using my Umax scanner until my old system crashed & I had a new one built. Well, I like the scanner & thought no big deal I'll us it with the new one. HOWEVER, my version software 2.1 causes errors with the new system. I wouldn't buy another Umax scanner since they want almost $15.00 for the new driver AND it's not returnable. So if that didn't solve my problem I'm stuck. Thanks E Breaux! Hope this works"

"Did not use scanner but it came with the old PC I purchased. When I bought a new computer did not use it. Now I really needed scanner and did not have the driver software. Went to UMAX and they said it was not downloadable wanted me to purchase CD. That would have be OK but I needed it today not a week from now. Thanks for provided such a public service."

"Not only did I have to endure putting out the money for this so/so scanner, but in trying to give it away to someone, I found that I no longer had the software, tried to download it and discovered that UMAX wanted $15 for it. What a rip! Thanks E., now at least I can bequeath it to someone else without having to re-invest in it."
