"Open the volume control tray icon on the taskbar, click on "options", select "advanced", click on the "Advnced" button under "Synth", uncheck "reverb", click close, then exit or close the volume control. That should kill the sqweeks, high-pitched noise, etc.. Works fine on Win2k & XP for me. Anyone with a solution to the "not-working/installed" joystick problem in 2K or XP?"
