"I tried this driver and folowed all directions.

No matter what I did, my WindowsXP Pro did not recognize it and I was unable to get it to work.

"I downloaded this driver with my apple. It downloaded as a file download.php? In desperation I changed its name to the name that it was meant to be vs355su.exe and installed it on my XP OS it didn't work my computer can't find the scanner."

"It was the HP Photosmart S20 that conflicted. I can use either one but not both. A bit of a pain but I don't use the UMAX all that much so I'll endure with pulling the USB cable on the S20 and plugging in the USB cable on the UMAX when I need to use it. Seems to recognize the UMAX as long as HP S20 is not connected to the USB. Tried many different approaches and connections but cannot get both to work."

"I had the same problem as others with not installing. REMOVE ALL USB devices first and get Windows XP to recognize the scanner. Then install vs355u file (best from www.umax.de as it automates) then don't restart! Install the 2xxxupdater. When it is complete, restart the computer. After a half a day of fiddling, finally figured it was a USB conflict, probably with my HP Photoscan (just plugging in USB one by one to check if I will have them all back with no conflict!)"

"Spot on folks! But you'll need 2xxxupdater.exe as well. First run vs355su.exe which unpacks six folders Disk1 to Disk6. Run vssetup in Disk1 but don't restart XP just yet. Run 2xxxupdater then restart XP. It works a treat - I need a copier and this saved me £70 for new scanner!"

"If you want your scanner to scan Images then DO NOT PLUG in the cable that comes from the lid. This for some reason causes a conflict. I bought the scanner to scan slides?"

[almost] everything. i have uninstalled and reinstalled. then i found these patches. i installed vs355u.exe and restarted. then installed 2xxxupdater.exe and restarted again.. still "USB device not found". i also finally got the "ADD/REMOVE HARDWARE" utilility to recognize and add the "Umax2100U Scanner" in the Device Manager.. restarted and still the same. i guess i will have to install WinME on another computer just to get access to the scanner.. have to scan 30 pages of text/OCR.. yuk! thanks for any advice.. fell free to email me.
