"UMAX wants their customers to pay for the XP driver, which is pathetic customer service. The Win 2000 driver was downloaded for use on an XP Pro SP 2 system in hopes that it would work with an old Astra 1220P. The 6-disk set of zip files only took a minute to unzip. Running setup.exe from the disk1 files installed the driver and all the VistaScan accessories. XP still doesn't "know" that it's installed, but the software does drive the scanner, and everything works in a predictable manner. XP still reports new hardware found upon startup. Not a biggie, though, as this can be terminated. The bottom line: the 2000 driver works.

"Hey Jason, I'm getting the same exact problem. I remember around a year ago I got my 1220p to work with XP and it worked flawlessly. After moving I just found it in a box and tried to get it working and all I get is the black image on preview and scan. Tried different settings and nothing. At least I know it's not my scanner since you have the same problem so it has to be something on the software/driver side. Anyone have any ideas how to solve it? Thanks in advance."

"10x Akash! It works pretty well on win2000pro and Umax Astra 2000P. If you don't copy the 2 directorys according to Akash instructions the installation is not complete. In this case if you try to scan something with maximum possible size or just test the scanner, when the lamp is at the end the driving belt makes a sound like it will break something."

"I've had the same issue with my 2000P while running WinXP, two files MIA, actually worse cuz my whole computer crashed had to reload windows (bad dll's ???). It could've been something else, but that was the last thing I did before the computer went haywire. Got any other drivers for 2000P under WinXP?!"

"I am so very grateful for the posting of this driver. I have been fighting my 1200P for a very long time and suddenly the application is working, and even better, it appears stable. The frosting on the cake is my transmissive head (UTA) for tranparencies works. Scanning my slide collection was the one compelling reason for my purchasing of this scanner. One issue 1) My original install disk did not have a profiles folder in it, All of the files there errored in the setup so if anyone knows what files are in there and where I might find them, It'd be nice to have an error free installation (I'm a perfectionist!) "Hi All, This driver actually works on win2k pro for astra 2000p...I could install these successfully in very short amount of time. This is the way out... 1. Download the driver file [self extractor] 2000p.exe from this site 2. Run this exe and allow it to extract into C \umax2000p 3. This file will extract into six more self extracting exe files named DISK1.EXE, DISK2.EXE, ..., DISK6.EXE 4. Run each one of them and allow them to extract into their default folder (c \UMAX) 5. You will find a new folder c \UMAX\VSTASCAN 6. Now from your original Umax Astra Scanner Installation CD copy the following two folders, as it is, into c \UMAX\VSTASCAN 1. ENGLISH 2. PROFILES NOTE The installation will give you a missing file error if you donot do so. 7. Final Step Run C \UMAX\VSTASCAN\DISK1\VSSETUP.EXE Follow the instructions on the screen.
