"The driver works very well with XP Professional. Where I got caught was getting XP to recognize the new driver.

A. After you get 3.75 and the 3.82 upgrade installed, reboot -

B. After the reboot, "right-click" on MyComputer, go to "Properties". Click on Hardware TAB - Click on Device Manager.

C. Click on the "+" in front of imaging devices. You should see "Umax Astra 3400". Right click this and select "Update Driver".

D. Click "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" then click the NEXT button.

E. In the new screen click "Don't search, I will choose the drive to install" can click NEXT.

F. The new screen shoud have "UMAX Astra 3400" and "USB Scanner". Click the "USB Scanner" and click NEXT.

G. In the prompt click "Continue Anyway". Click FINISH. Close all windows and REBOOT.

Windows XP should now be using 3.75 w/ the 3.82 upgrade rather than it's own default driver. The VistaScan ICON in the taskbar should no longer be crossed out. I hope this helps.

"This down load was great!!! just follow the directions and you'll be on your way.I did it by saving it to my computer and when it was done down loading i opened it and it automaticly un-ziped after its done close the zip program go to my computer look in your local disk or to some (C )and search for the name you saved the file as ,i saved it as Umax3400,click on the blue icon w/ the computer and when you done the click on next file, some more folders will be in the same folder with the blue icon and just look in for VSSETUP ,you'll get the idea. "I tried downloading this at home on a 56k modem 4 times and I kept getting a truncated version which led to the error messages everyone else is getting. When I downloaded it at work with a faster connection it worked first time. The size of the file in properties should read 13.7Mb if not you've not got the full thing and it won't work."
