"For the Opti 16 sound card You need to get the right chipset for your sound card to find the exact driver that will work best What does best mean, NO NOISE PERFECT SOUND does that sound good? Take off the cover of your computer and look at the sound card, there in the center should be a square chip, right down everything on the chip so you don't have to go back in again You then go to the driver website, and instead of typing in opti or some other crap type in the number of the chip in at the place where it searches for drivers then it will find the exact one for the card in your system! The same goes for almost every card in your computer from modems, intranet cards anything that you may need! Exception on modems you can put the fcc number in also it helps cause every modem has to be registered with fcc after it's made and they keep records of that so you can find perfect drivers for rare modems aswell so have fun everyone if this helped and if it didn't still have a blast ok"

BY THW WAY If you manually install the drivers you have to indivisually Install EACH ONE "One At A Time" (I Normally Go Top To Bottom) and it will install one driver then you have to go through the "add/remove hardware crap over and over in order to INSTALL all of the drivers that a complete installation requires **This assuming windows 95/98 did not find them (part of them) for you already...or previously! "regarding the generic sound driver for the Opti 931-based cards does anyone know if this driver is "certified" via directx? you can find this out by running DirectX Diagnosis Program (By Default C \Program Files\DirectX\Setup\DXDiag) and look under the Sound tab (generally below it will give you an error as mine does with the disk that I got with my Pc (Mine shows the following) The file SND931P.VXD is uncertified, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. You may be able to get a certified driver from the manufacturer of the hardware device. Unfortunately I have a game that needs Certified Sound and Video drivers in order to run and my card even though it states it's sound blaster compatible, etc (Is'nt DirectX Compatible) ARGGGG OPTI Inc.
