"I found one interesting cause of this problem. I'm putting my new system together right now and I got this error message. My MB has four IDE channels and my CDROM was on channel 3. It appears it needs to be on either IDE 1 or 2 to work - otherwise you get the 'not found'/'aborting' message."

OEMCD001
no drives selected aborting installation
your ide cable is BAD just replace it and make sure you take out those useless config.sys and autoexec.bat lines because that fix is for ancient systems if anybody has any questions just email me"

"no drives found, aborting installation." and "Device driver not found 'MSCD001'" which simply means my CDROM is dead. My CDROM is external and named ARGOSY CDROM/player 980. They have tech. support but they don't want to answer on my emails.

 "Hello again,
I have the same problem as you I
formatted my C drive, wanted to reinstall Win98 from the CD-ROM and
guess what ? -) "No drive found. Aborting installation" (I have an
IBM PC-750 P133 with a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive.)
I have found a solution wich worked at least for me
- find the PC maker's site (in my case, IBM.com) or the CD drive maker's
site. Use Google if you don't know its web address
- search the site (or Google.com with url=ibm.com) with the keyword
"CD-ROM" or "CD-ROM driver" or even more precise keywords if needed my own example
- download the driver package for one's PC or CD drive (in my case, IBM
Diskette Drivers for 8X CD-ROM v° 1.45)
- if necessary, unzip the package (mine, named "z51t03a.exe", was
compressed, I double-clicked on it and it expanded into a disquette, the
contents of which I then copied on to a special subdirectory on another
PC C drive)
- read the README files first they usually give lots of information -
and such was the case for me the READ.ME file indicated wich file
exactly contained the CD drivers
- in the files contained in the package, copy that .sys CD drivers file
(in my case IBMIDECD.SYS)
- in one's Windows boot-up/emergency disquette, replace oakcdrom.sys or
any other *cdrom.sys file with your PC or CD drive maker's .sys CD
drivers file
- rename that .sys file into anything_in_3_letters_cdrom.sys, such as ibmcdrom.sys
- edit the config.sys and autoexec.bat files in the disquette and replace all occurences of oakcdrom.sys (or other *cdrom.sys file) with your PC or CD drive maker's .sys CD drivers file (ibmcdrom.sys)
- boot your reformated PC with such a disquette. There are chances it'll
work. Of course, it may also not...
And tell me whether it worked for you. -) The posts at DriverGuide set
me on the way to the solution. I hope this e-mail will set you too.

"I am having the same problems as James Gin. I have tried a LOT CD-Rom drives (changing the config.sys and autoexec.bat) I've found out there and no matter what I do, I still get
'No drives found...aborting installation'
The biggest problem I can't access the WIn98 CD--or even copy it to the C drive.
Can anyone help me alter the Win98 Boot Disk so I can get my CD-Rom up and running? Or, tell me what to try.
I keep getting the same comment from everyone I talk to get a new computer, but I don't want to (so don't tell me so).
I have an old beastie Compaq 5133/66 with a NEC 502 CD-Rom.
Thanks for any and all help you can provide!!!!!!!!!!

"This driver works great on a IDE CD!
To use, CONFIG.SYS should have the line device=oakcdrom.sys /d mscd001
The AUTOEXEC.BAT should have the line

This assumes both oakcdrom.sys and mscdex.exe are at the root of the DOS boot disk."

"For those of you who are having trouble getting this driver to load, try this
This needs to be added to your config.sys file-
device=C \oakcdrom.sys /D mscd001
And this to your autoexec.bat file-
lh c \MSCDEX.EXE /D OEMCD001
Of course you will have to tell it where the file is located if it is in a separate folder than the root (C drive) And you will need to download or have the mscdex.exe file also. Hope this helps!
This is an excellent generic driver. It has worked for every cd rom drive I have ever used or fixed."
