"After extracting USRoboticswizardsetup.exe, the two files DPWave.inf and MdmUSRDP2.inf are exactly the same files that are extracted from the driver for a U.S. Robotics Sportster Model 0484 (661749-81).

The other driver file, Usr_0484.zip has a more current date stamp of 7/28/1999. From extracting USRoboticswizardsetup.exe, the date stamp for the two files are 5/8/1998.

I have installed these drivers by using the Modem Wizard in the Control Panel. Windows 98 1st Ed. recognized the modem as a U.S. Robotics 56K Voice INT on COM 2.

Using this driver, connection speed is usually 49,333 bps and sometimes up to 50,667 bps.

Hint: For identifying U.S. Robotics dialup modems, go to USRs website and download the U.S. Robotics Modem Identification Utility (miu.exe). I installed this on Windows 98_1st

Ed and it displayed the Product ID and Model Number."

"I can't really comment at the moment Steve. However, I can tell you that I have been trying to get answers for over a week from usr.robotics.com and their Canadian representatives without success. My Modem is a 3 Com Robotics Sportster Model 0484 bearing serial No. 10082060. I could not locate anything under this information until Keating Technologies tied this information in with "Model No. 1749-82 OEM," and you were the first to help me get my hands on the proper Driver. My floppy that came with my Modem refers to drivers and pdf. file on WinModems 33k and 56k. Mine has always worked at 56k however, it was controlled by Windows. Thanks for the help. P.S. I will let you know of any improvements."

"I have a Sportster Model 0484, but it is not 56K. It dates back to 1997 or '98 (it's dated 1997 on the circuit board) and is 33.6K speed. I'm wondering whether Model 0484 at one time came in a v.34 33.6K version, upgradable to v.90 56K (and mine has never been upgraded). (Certain info from the "Consumer, OEM installation and drivers file library" of 3com-support's website seems consistent with this interpretation, but if anyone has good info on this, I'd appreciate knowing). I'm thinking of trying the 1749.exe driver from the 3com site (the one for Oem product 661749 -- note that I saw no "-81" ending in the product code in the entry on this site), esp. since the product code label on my modem is 83174900 (i.e, the 1749 matches). Steve, do you know whether this driver file - or the one that you submitted to www.driverguide.com - would work for a 33.6K Sporster Model 0484? Does anyone? Thanks for any help."

"My Task bar would not indicate the proper connection speed, it would display my Port speed(115K).Was told by 3Com that i probably had the wrong driver installed but failed to help me because according to my serial# ,I had an OEM version of the Modem.Who cares actually, i know that it is a 3Com product. After installing the driver even if it said that it was an older version, my speed is showing up properly and also my speed connection is higher than it was. I have performed many test before and after the installation by checking the MORE INFO in the Diagnostic of the modem in Control Setting. Right at the bottom it gives some info about the last connection."
