"The driver was the right one. However, my speakers are from an older model Presario Compaq, and I traded that model for a Compaq Deskpro that must have originally had amplified speakers. I went to the Compaq site and the BBS had answered a question stating that regardless of whether the drivers were installed on a new sound card, the speakers would not produce sound that was legible without upgrading to the amplified speakers. At any rate, I thank you for the als 4000 driver. I lost the original driver (and was not given software with the trade) when my computer crashed. I did not have a restore disk for the Deskpro, and used my 95 restore disk instead that was from my Presario. It really screwed things up. I had to FDISK and reformat from a full version of Windows 98. That was what was required on Deskpro. But in the beginning, it called for the WIN98 Upgrade that I did not have. But I got around that problem with the FDISK low format feature. Thanks again friend! ---Jack"
