DriverGuide News: DriverGuide v3 - New look, new features!
by quincy, posted 14 May 2009, 7:43 pm |
After months of work we've just released our first "Version 3" update. Much more to come, but this is the foundation on top of which the other stuff will come.
Our mission in this major update was to reduce the clutter and complexity of the site, try to improve the usability of the existing features, and then add new and exciting features.
On Monday we went live with the new first release, primary changes at this point include:
* Update the header/footer to be cleaner, more useful.
* Eliminate the cluttered left and right navigation columns from all pages. Rely instead on context relevant features and a "sub tab" where those features can be accessed.
* Redesign our old "search wizard" to deliver an easier experience more akin to a guided browse, including breadcrumb navigation links to go back.
* Redesign our driver lists to make them easier to use, including a breadcrumb navigation links to go back.
* Recreate the new home page to focus on the primary things users want to do when they come to our site: 1) keyword search for their driver! 2) scan their system for driver updates! 3) browse for updates based on manufacturer/device type.
* Replace our old search engine with a new one! We now use a new backend search engine which is much better. An exciting new search UI will come in the next few weeks!
* and more...
So, welcome to v3, hope you like it, and if you don't, tell us (but don't be a jerk about it, give us specific feedback, good or bad)!

DriverGuide News: A whole new look...
by quincy, posted 28 October 2005, 7:38 pm |
DriverGuide is proud to announce our new design! It's the same site you've always known, now with a better interface. Beyond merely improving the look we're also working to improve the interfaces to many of our features, making things more friendly to novice users while not losing any of the features important to veteran users. And many exciting new features and services are on the horizon and will be launched in the coming weeks and months.
And if you find bugs and want to switch back to the old look/interface until we resolve them you can do that by choosing the appropriate option in the left hand nav.

DriverGuide News: Looking for boot disks? Try these...
by jake, posted 28 July 2005, 10:32 pm |
Most PC users eventually run into the situation where their computer won't boot as it should. Maybe it's a virus, maybe it's disk corruption, maybe it's a failed install of an OS. Whatever the case, you may find yourself in need of a boot disk.
We've collected a bunch of links to various boot disks found on the web which you can download from our Boot Disk Page.
Be warned, these boot disks aren't hosted by our site and we can't vouch for their authenticity or safety.
If you're running a recent version of Windows, particularly XP, then don't forget you can boot from the CD and in XP you can access the DOS (like) recovery console from the XP CD, where you can do everything you could from a boot disk.
Hope this helps! |

DriverGuide News: See a file's Trust Rating from search results!
by quincy, posted 25 July 2005, 11:43 am |
| Driver/firmware search results now include a display of the file's Trust Rating. Look for it on the right side, below each download link. If you want to learn more about what the Trust Rating is, you can read more about it, and most importantly click the actual rating, which will take you to that file's trust report. |

DriverGuide News: DriverGuide Trust Ratings Launched! (MUST READ!)
by quincy, posted 13 July 2005, 8:01 pm |
We've launched one of the most exciting features in years, every driver/firmware detail page now includes an analysis of those factors which should make you trust or mistrust that driver/firmware. You have to make the final call, but we'll tell you what we think, and why. The factors for trust we analyze include: file origin, virus scan results, and member feedback.
And what's most exciting, you'll find that more than 2/3 of our drivers/firmware come from a trusted source! A trusted source can be a trusted site (e.g., manufacturer's site) or a trusted user (e.g., our paid DriverGuide Techs who upload only from trusted sites or installation CD-ROMs/floppies).
We've always tried to ensure you only get the safest drivers, by encouraging and displaying ratings/comments, and by always scanning for viruses, but now we take it a big step further. So, welcome to the new and more trustworthy DriverGuide! |
